Museo Frida Kahlo
Casa Azul is one of the most visited attractions in Mexico City.
It was in this blue house that the famous Mexican painter Frida Kahlo was born, lived and died.
If you want to visit the museum, don't put off buying tickets. Unlike most sights in Mexico City, dates often sell out days in advance.

Who was Frida Kahlo and what will you see here?
Frida Kahlo is one of Mexico's most famous artists.
She became famous for her self-portraits and is now one of the symbols of Mexican culture.
The biggest attraction is not the gallery itself, but the opportunity to tour her actual home.
Inside, you'll see:
- the original living rooms
- Frida Kahlo's studio
- personal items and clothing
- the garden
- selected works of art by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera
The house has a very authentic feel, making it one of the most interesting museums in the city.
Buy your tickets at least a week in advance
This is one of the few attractions in Mexico City where reservations are really important.
We underestimated our visit and a few days in advance all the dates were already sold out.
If you have a firm travel date, I recommend buying tickets at least a week before your visit. On weekends and during peak season, even earlier.
Tickets are not available on site - the museum has no box office.
- 💰320 mxn (reservations in advance only)
- 🕗 Monday closed, Tuesday + Thursday - Sunday 10-18, Wednesday 11-18
- 🌐 Booking: official website boletos.museofridakahlo.org.mx
What to do if tickets are no longer available?
If there are no tickets left on the official website for your date, try other sales channels.
Various agencies buy tickets (legally) and then sell them at a much higher price.
Personally, in this case I would only use a verified site like GetYourGuide, which I use almost every time I travel.
But expect a price around 700 mxn.
Is it worth visiting Casa Azul?
✅ Yes, if:
- you are interested in Frida Kahlo
- you want to get to know one of the icons of Mexican culture
- you are planning a visit to the beautiful, quiet neighborhood of Coyoacán
❌ More likely not, if:
- you don't have tickets in advance
- you are not interested in art and history
💡 Alternative:
If you can't make it to Casa Azul, at least check out Coyoacán itself. It's one of the most pleasant neighborhoods in Mexico City and well worth a visit even without the museum.
How to get there?
The Museo Frida Kahlo is located in the south of Mexico City, about 12 km from the centre.
We tried both Uber and public transport.
- 🚖 Uber - we went from the museum to the Polanco district for about 220 mxn, waiting for a free car for about 5 minutes
- 🚇 Metro - Coyoacán station, line 3 towards the centre
- from there I recommend a walk of about 20 minutes through the really very nice (and safe) Coyoacán district
