Masjid Selat Melaka

The Malacca Strait Mosque is located - as the name suggests - right on the shore of this famous strait and the busiest shipping route in the world.
It stands on an artificial island about 4 km from the historic centre and is one of the most popular sights in the city.

Minaret and lighthouse
The mosque is a modern structure and was opened in 2006 with a combination of Malay and Middle Eastern architectural styles.
It stands on concrete stakes in the sea and gives the impression of a floating structure at high tide.
The 30-metre minaret also serves as a lighthouse.
Visit the mosque in the dark
The Malacca Mosque is one of the reasons why it is worth spending at least 1 night in the city.
During the night it is beautifully lit and the spectacle is definitely worth it.

While the viewing point by the small sandy beach is accessible 24/7 for free, you can also visit the interior of the mosque.
The latter is accessible from daily except on Fridays at the following times:

On Fridays, the mosque is open the following times:

How to get there
There is no public transport to the island and walking along the busy road is very uncomfortable.
We therefore recommend using Grab, which works great in Malacca and waiting times are within units of minutes.
The price for Grab to the centre is around 8 myr.
