Where to stay in Malacca

Although many travelers head to Malacca for just a day trip from Kuala Lumpur, I would personally recommend spending at least one night here, as the historic center has its own irresistible charm, especially after dark.
Where to stay in Malacca
We recommend staying within the historic centre and choosing a hotel so that you can walk everywhere.
Malacca itself is quite a big city and you can find hotels in the modern part of the city, but if you choose accommodation in the outskirts, you will always have to take a Grab or taxi to the centre.
Large modern hotels
If you prefer large modern hotels, we would recommend the following options in Malacca.
- Swiss-Garden Hotel Melaka **** - modern hotel in a high-rise building on the northern edge of the centre about 15 minutes walk to Chinatown
- Dusit Princess Hotel ***** - another hotel in a modern building on the northern edge of the centre about 15 minutes walk to Chinatown
- Rest Collection RedHouse Melaka **** - a modern hotel in an old building just off Dutch Square in the middle of the historic centre
There are also other hotels of multinational chains in Malacca, but they are further away from the centre (about 10 minutes by Grab, for which you pay on average 7 myr to 10 myr).
The best rated ones include 5* DoubleTree by Hilton Melaka with breathtaking views of the Strait of Malacca.
Cheap accommodation in Chinatown
If you want to experience the authentic atmosphere of the historic centre, of which Chinatown is the main part, we recommend these well rated guesthouses and small hotels with prices starting from 35 usd per night.
Hotel prices and when to book
Malacca is an urban destination with no clear seasonality, so accommodation prices are similar throughout the year.
Although it is the most visited historic city in Malaysia, many travellers only head here for a day without accommodation and so hotel prices are quite reasonable.
Quality 4* and even 5* hotels offer rooms from 80 usd per night and smaller local hotels in the historic centre from 40 usd.
