Toy Museum

Toy Museum

While wandering around the historic city, children will enjoy a stop at the rather large and nicely furnished Toy Museum (Spielzeugmuseum), where you can admire historical and contemporary toys for boys and girls on several floors.

The best family hotels in Nuremberg

The museum has been in operation since 1971 and has over 65,000 objects on 1,400m2 of exhibition space.

What to look forward to in the museum?

The Toy Museum is thematically divided into 4 permanent exhibitions:

  • The Lydia-Bayer-Cabinet - a room that will appeal more to adults. Here you will find the most valuable historical toys from the Middle Ages to the 20th century from the collection of the museum's founder Lydia Bayer.
  • Dolls and figurines - although the title of the next exhibition may evoke a paradise for girls, boys will find their own. In addition to hundreds of dolls and dollhouses, there are also exhibitions of figurines of soldiers
  • World of Technology - the largest and most popular section, featuring large technical toys including the popular model railway
  • Toys since 1945 - the last floor is occupied by a mix of toys from the mid-20th century to the present day

Admission and opening times

The Toy Museum is closed every Monday. From Tuesday to Friday, its doors are open from 9am-5pm, and until 6pm on weekends and public holidays. It is closed on Christmas Eve and 25.12.

Ticket prices for adults are 7,50 eur, for children under 18 2,50 eur.
