The city has its own international airport, Nuremberg NUE, and is easily accessible by high-speed rail from other German destinations.
Frequent bus connections are mainly provided by Flixbus, which mostly goes to cities in Germany or the Czech Republic.

Parking in Nuremberg
While getting to Nuremberg is easy and doesn't require complicated descriptions thanks to sat navs and maps, the crucial question for motorists always comes after arriving in the city: where is the cheapest place to park in Nuremberg?
And is it possible to find free parking anywhere in Nuremberg?
Free parking on the street
Nuremberg is not all incorporated into resident parking zones. Thus, in all outlying areas of the city , it is possible to park on the street for free.
However, if you park for longer periods of time during the working week, you need to pay attention to the additional signs. Street cleaning is widespread throughout the city each week, when on-street parking is prohibited during designated hours and subject to towing and fines.
For a map of resident-only zones, see the city's website at www.nuernberg.de (click on "Übersicht der Bewohnerparkgebiete").
Free parking is available in all areas except those marked.
In the city centre, you can park in the resident-only zones, but you can only park for a maximum of 2 hours at a time (the fee is 5 eur/hour).
Tips for free, unattended parking near downtown with unlimited parking:
- Kessler Platz (see map) - 180 metres from Wöhrder Wiese underground station near the historic centre
- Wöhrder Talübergang (see map) - connection to the centre by buses 36 and 94 (stop Bauvereinstr.)
Free P+R parking
Another good option for free parking are the P+R car parks on the outskirts of the city near underground and train stations. You can only park for free if you buy a public transport ticket and for a maximum of 48 hours.
When coming from the Czech Republic, the A6 motorway is the closest P+R car park:
- Langawasser-Süd (underground) - open-air car park for 348 cars, connection to the city centre every 7 minutes by metro line U1 (approx. 15 minutes)
- Fischbach (S-Bahn) - smaller open-air car park for 98 cars, connection to the centre every 20 minutes by train line S2 (approx. 12 minutes)
- Herrnhütte (underground) - indoor garage for 470 cars, connection to the centre every 10 minutes by the U2 underground line (approx. 8 minutes)
Parking houses
In addition to the free P+R Herrnhütte car park (see above), there are several paid garages and parking houses closer to the centre of Nuremberg, which are suitable for visits longer than 48 hours if you don't want to leave your car on the street in the outskirts.

Ecological "Umweltzone"
Many German cities have introduced "Umweltzones", i.e. zones with limited entry for cars that do not meet emission standards. To enter these zones, you need an official green eco-sticker on your windscreen.
However, Nuremberg has so far lifted the Umweltzone and entry into the city is now possible without restrictions.
By bus and train
Nuremberg is perfectly accessible by train, especially from German cities - the train is always the first choice for travelling around Germany from Nuremberg.
Buses are often significantly cheaper and are also the most frequent and fastest way to travel internationally - for example to the Czech Republic or Poland.
