Architecture and history

The church was built by the city council of the time with significant contributions from wealthy townspeople. The beginning of the construction dates back to around 1250, but the nave was not completed until 1400 and the whole church including the towers in 1477.

The architectural style is a typical example of Brick Gothic with a simple façade and a clean, sparsely decorated interior. However, in the bowels of the church are preserved art treasures from the collection of St. Lawrence.

The Lorenzkirche is the tallest church in Nuremberg with its two 80-metre high towers.

Admission and opening hours

The church is open to the public from 9:00-17:00 and admission is free.

For a fee 5 eur, you can climb the narrow spiral staircase to the north tower, where at a height of about 60 metres you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city and the church bells.
