If you’re heading to Nuremberg with children, you definitely shouldn’t miss a visit to the laid-back Playmobil FunPark in the village of Zirndorf, about 15 km west of the city centre.

It’s worth knowing right from the start what to expect from the park. Playmobil FunPark isn’t a traditional funfair with rollercoasters and high-speed rides. It’s a huge themed playground where children can climb, run, explore and play at their own pace.

If you have active children aged roughly 3 to 10, you can easily spend a whole day here. Older children expecting adrenaline-fuelled rides may not find the park quite as exciting.

The toy manufacturer Playmobil has its headquarters in Zirndorf, and the park has been open here since 2000. The site covers over 90,000 m², or roughly 9 hectares.

What can you find at Playmobil FunPark?

In the park, you can look forward to many attractions that are thematically linked to Playmobil figures in various forms, including larger-than-life versions. All the scenery is styled to resemble the manufacturer’s toys and is also designed for practical use.

In total, there are 25 attractions in the park. You can look forward to the following highlights, for example:

• The Knight’s Castle – one of the park’s landmarks, featuring a secret underground passage, a tower, a dungeon and a hall of mirrors. Knightly tournament-style games are also held in the surrounding area.
• Pirate World – a large water play area with pirate ships, rafts, climbing frames and a treasure hunt. On a warm day, children usually don’t manage to stay dry here.
• The Mermaid Kingdom – another water play area with canals, seashells and play areas for younger children.
• Western Town – the Wild West setting is complemented by a gold mine, a sandpit and an area for treasure hunts.
• Construction Site and Police Station – children can try out diggers, have a go at building work or ride pedal go-karts. Please note that a minimum height of 120 cm is required for the go-karts.
• Treehouse and dinosaurs – a combination of suspension bridges, slides and climbing frames that works well even for children who aren’t particularly interested in the Playmobil figures themselves.
• HOB Centre – a 5,000 m² indoor hall with indoor climbing frames, a climbing area and a huge selection of Playmobil toys. It’s a lifesaver during a sudden shower, but won’t fully replace the outdoor park in the event of persistent rain.

You’ll also find a mini-golf course at Playmobil FunPark, along with dozens of climbing frames, climbing attractions, trampolines… in short, everything children could possibly imagine.

Who is the park aimed at?

Head to Playmobil Park with children aged 3 to 10. The attractions are designed primarily for younger children; older children might find the park a bit boring.

How much time should you set aside?

During peak season, plan for a full day and ideally arrive in the morning. The site is vast, and children often get caught up for ages in the very first themed worlds.

An afternoon ticket from 15:00 is only 3 eur cheaper, so we see it more as an option for a shorter second visit than as a way to save significantly.

We wouldn’t combine the Playmobil FunPark with Nuremberg Zoo and Dolphinarium on the same day. Both are full-day outings in their own right. If you’re spending two family days in Nuremberg, however, this combination makes perfect sense.

Admission and opening hours

The main season runs from late March to mid-September. The park is open daily:

• 9.00 am to 7.00 pm until mid-September
• 9.00 am to 6.00 pm from mid-September

Ticket prices are the same for everyone aged 3 and over. Children under 3 go in free.

As the number of attractions is significantly reduced during the winter season, prices from November to April are lower than during the summer season.

How do you get to Playmobil FunPark?

The theme park is situated 15 km west of Nuremberg, south of the village of Zirndorf and west of the town of Oberasbach.

By car

The four-lane Südwesttangente road leads to the Playmobil FunPark; follow it for about 3 km to the Zirndorf exit.

There is a huge car park right by the entrance to the park, including charging points for electric cars. The all-day parking fee is 5 eur and is payable at the main ticket office.

By public transport

When travelling from Nuremberg city centre, first take the S-Bahn line S4, which runs from, for example, the main station or Schweinau station (change to the U2 underground line).

Travel to Anwanden station, where you’ll change to bus number 151.

You’ll get off right in front of the entrance at the Zirndorf, Playmobil FunPark stop.
