The historic Frankfurt Opera House is a concert hall on the northern edge of the city centre.

Frankfurt also currently hosts the New Opera House, but this is a completely different artistic venue and company.

Old Opera House

The Frankfurt Opera House was built in 1880 in the then traditional neo-Renaissance style. The model was the building of the Vienna State Opera.

However, the building was completely destroyed during the Second World War. It was restored to its exact original form in the 1970s.

Outside of performances, only the main lobby of the building can be visited - there are currently no public tours.

Tickets for the performance

Tickets for performances of famous operas are recommended to buy online in advance, even weeks in advance, on the official website alteoper.de.

The cheapest seats in the side balcony with not a full view of the stage always start at 15 eur. Tickets in the galleries above can be purchased from 57 eur to 80 eur.
