Where to stay in Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt am Main

For tourists, Frankfurt is more of a stopover for a few hours during a long layover at FRA.

However, if you want to explore the city more thoroughly or if you are visiting during the great and huge Christmas markets, we recommend staying in Frankfurt for at least 1 night.

Best locations - hotel tips

Frankfurt am Main has a relatively small and compact centre, where most hotels are concentrated.

Altstadt

The historic centre around the main Römerberg Square is the nicest part of Frankfurt e the most tourist attractions and sights.

There is not a great choice of hotels here, but you will find very good quality accommodation.

We recommend these hotels:

Surroundings of the main railway station

By far the largest selection of hotels is around Frankfurt-Hauptbahnhof station.

This is handy if you are arriving in the city by train. In addition, many S-Bahn, underground and tram lines cross at the local main station, making it easy to get around the city from here.

The immediate area towards the centre (east) doesn't have the best reputation and especially at night it doesn't feel very safe. We would recommend staying more to the south or north of the station building, for example in these hotels:

Near the airport

Frankfurt Airport is one of the largest in the world and many travellers have long overnight layovers or early morning departures here.

That's why you'll find a large number of hotels here that you can use for convenient access to the terminals.

What's more, Frankfurt city centre can be reached within 20 minutes by train from the airport, so airport hotels can easily be included in your plans for exploring the city.

In our opinion, the following hotels are the most convenient for travellers:

Hotel prices in Frankfurt

Frankfurt is average on the price scale of European cities. Prices here are not low, but neither are they exorbitant.

Because Frankfurt is not primarily a tourist destination, the highest prices tend to be on weekdays, especially Monday through Thursday. Conversely, the cheapest prices are on weekends.

The exception is the Christmas market season, when hotels tend to be very expensive on weekends!

A normal 2* to 3* costs between 60 eur and 80 eur for a double room per night, while larger hotels and accommodation from multinational chains will offer prices between 100 eur and 150 eur per night for 2.
