What to do in Frankfurt am Main
How to have fun in Frankfurt? Where to go on excursions or shopping? What activities are worth travelling to Frankfurt for?
Christmas in Frankfurt
Frankfurt is one of the most popular Advent destinations in Germany.
The local Advent markets are often described as the biggest and most beautiful in all of Europe.
Personally, I liked the markets in Frankfurt much more than, say, Vienna or Nuremberg. You have to expect bigger crowds, but at the same time a wide variety of souvenirs, handicrafts, food and delicious food stalls.

Panorama views with skyscrapers
There are not many modern metropolises in Europe with a large number of high-rise buildings, but Frankfurt is one of the exceptions.
The unmistakable skyline of the modern centre is made up of over 30 skyscrapers, and the modern centre has been nicknamed the "Mainhattan skyline" - a play on words combining the name of the river Main, which runs through Frankfurt, and Manahttan, the famous district in New York.
The tallest building in Frankfurt is the 259-metre Commerzbank skyscraper, while the highest public observation deck is on the roof of the 200-metre MAIN TOWER.
One of the best views of Frankfurt's skyline is from the historic Eiserner Steg Bridge.
Cruises on the Main River
In good weather, board one of the many sightseeing cruises at the Eiserner Steg Bridge and enjoy views of the city from a different perspective.
The cruises usually last between 1 and 1.5 hours and take you all along the centre of Frankfurt.
The embarkation points of all companies are close to each other and there is no need to make a reservation online, just always up on the spot.
The largest company that organizes cruises, which we also used, is Primus Linie.
Prices for longer 100 minute cruises are around 20 eur, while for a 50 minute cruise you pay around 16 eur.
Detailed information and timetables can be found on the primus-linie.de website.
