City walls

Castles

Exceptionally well-preserved medieval defensive walls still surround practically the entire historic centre of Vannallinn.

Tallinn's city walls can be found practically everywhere within the centre and date from the 13th to 16th centuries.

Where are the nicest parts?

We liked these parts of the walls the most, and you definitely shouldn't miss them during your walk through the centre:

  • Kiek in de Kök - the walls in the central part of the centre, which you can walk along
  • Viru gate - the entrance gate on the eastern part of the centre, through which the main pedestrian street "Viru" passes (see map)
  • Towers' Square - Tornide väljak is the part of the walls on the northern edge known for its 6 towers (see map)
