Where to stay in Tallinn

Tallinn is a small and compact city, so it doesn't matter which part of the city you stay in. Hotels in the centre alone often cost up to 100 eur per night per room including breakfast.
Where to stay in Tallinn
Don't worry about choosing a specific location in Tallinn. Just stay a few streets away from the historic centre and you'll have the whole city in the palm of your hand. Walking distance will be no more than 15 minutes from anywhere to the historic centre.
The 10 best hotels in Tallinn city centre
Another advantage of visiting Tallinn is that you'll find plenty of international chains and premium hotels at prices no higher than 80 eur per night and room for two.
Some of the hotels that are located outside the centre are primarily for travellers with a car.
We'd recommend staying around the historic centre, the harbour or the trendy Hobuyama district, where you're close to everything thanks to the dense public transport network.
We recommend that you keep an eye on the fact that this is indeed a hotel and not an apartment or studio. If you are choosing an apartment or studio, make sure the accommodation has a reception.
Lowcost hotels
If your goal is to really pay as little as possible for your accommodation, look for these hotels.
- City Hotel Tallinn ** (approx. 45 eur / night) - a small basic but very clean hotel under Toompea Castle 5 minutes walk from the centre
- Center Hotel ** (approx. 35 eur / night) - very basic hotel with shared bathrooms and very low prices about 15 minutes walk / 5 minutes by bus from the centre
Mid-range hotels
The vast majority of hotels in Tallinn fall into the middle class. That is, hotels with 3* and 4* ratings and prices around 80 eur to 100 eur per room per night. We can recommend the following hotels:
- Ibis Styles Tallinn *** ( approx. 70 eur / night) - the hotel is located below Toompea Castle 5 minutes walk from the historic centre
- Tallink City Hotel **** (approx. 100 eur / night) - modern hotel in the new Hobuyaama district 10 minutes walk from the historic centre
- Merchants House Hotel **** (approx. 120 eur / night) - well rated hotel right in the middle of the Old Town
Luxury hotels
Even the more discerning clientele will find something to their liking in Tallinn. You will find several premium 5* hotels here:
- Swissotel Tallinn ***** (from 160 eur)- modern hotel with a view in the Kesklinn district 5 minutes by tram from the centre and the airport
- Radisson Collection Tallinn ***** (from 180 eur) - if the above hotel is at full capacity, choose this one. Located just steps away in a more modern part of Tallinn
Hotels near stations and ports
Have an early morning departure on a long-distance train, bus or ferry? Ideally, choose a hotel where you can walk to the station in just a few minutes.
- Go Hotel Shnelli *** - this modern hotel is directly attached to the main railway station Balti jaam
- Hestia Hotel Seaport Tallinn *** - hotel right next to the Tallink pier
- Tallink Spa & Conference Hotel **** - hotel next to the Viking Line and Eckerö Line wharf
- ibis Tallinn Center *** - hotel about 250 metres from the main bus station
Hotel prices and when to book
From the description above, Tallinn is still one of the cheaper European cities.
Regular 3* or 4* hotels have year-round prices between 60 eur and 100 eur and very cheap here tend to be premium 5* hotels with prices from 160 eur, which is 2-3 times less than in Western European capitals.
Because Tallinn is not such a touristy place, prices stay at a similar level all year round.
