Tallinn weather specifics

Estonia is already pretty much in the north, so latitude is an important factor in the weather.

You won't experience tropical temperatures in Tallinn even in summer, and days when it's over 26°C are very rare.

The north of Estonia, including Tallinn, is in the rainiest region of the entire Baltic Sea. It rains very often, but it usually only falls in relatively short showers that usually last no longer than 1 hour. However, they can occur several times a day.

Winters here are long and dark, but frosts are not extreme due to the location right by the sea.

During winter the days are very short, on the other hand in summer it is light until late evening.

When to go to Tallinn

If Tallinn is your only destination in Estonia, then it is possible to visit it all year round.

The urban nature of the destination allows you to take shelter from the bad weather at any time in museums, cafes, galleries, pubs or breweries.

Yet there are two main periods during which travel is most ideal:

  • Summer - pleasant temperatures, little rain and lots of sunshine make for long walks. The days are also extremely long.
  • December - the magical atmosphere of the Christmas markets entices a weekend visit.
