Matemwe Beach

Matemwi

The beautiful, palm-fringed beach around the fishing village of Matemwe is ideal for those looking for a quieter, more local resort.

Swimming is only possible at high tide, while at low tide you can walk across the lagoon to the barrier reef a kilometre from the shore.

Beach facilities

The beach at Matemwe is wide and very long, and compared to larger resorts like Kiwengwa or Paje, it's considerably less busy.

There are no amenities here and even the snack vendors are significantly fewer than at nearby beaches.

The town of Matemwe itself is very local and often looks untidy and dirty, on the other hand there are plenty of very cheap street food outlets.
