Dar es Salaam in a nutshell
With over 7 million, Dar es Salaam is Tanzania's largest and Africa's 5th largest city.
It is one of the safest metropolises in all of Africa and is an ideal place for a 1-day stopover before heading to a safari, the mountains or Zanzibar.
Dar es Salaam itself is not one of Tanzania's main tourist attractions. You will find almost no sights, nor nice beaches. But you will experience the unique atmosphere of a modern city in an African setting.
For example, the local markets are great! If you have an extra day in Dar es Salaam, I recommend going to the nearby virgin islands of Bongoyo or Sinda.
