Kuza Cave is one of the most famous cultural and natural attractions in Zanzibar. And yet, chances are you'll be all alone!

Kuza Cave is only about 1 km from Jambiani resort and the main attraction is swimming in the natural underground river that forms a small lake at the bottom of the cave.

The 10 best hotels in Zanzibar

There are other similar caves on the island - we list them in the chapter What to do in Zanzibar.

Swimming in a limestone cave

The cave is hidden from the surroundings in a dense forest, but when you step onto the edge of it, a huge limestone hole full of stalactites opens up in front of you.

At the bottom of the cave, you will see a bright blue surface of crystal clear mineral water in which you can safely bathe.

Cooking or craft lessons

As well as exploring the natural beauty of Kuza Cave, you can experience Swahili culture first-hand at the site.

You can pay for cooking lessons or try your hand at making traditional Swahili handicrafts.

A detailed list of all activities can be found on the official website kuzacave.com.

Entrance fees and opening hours

How to get there

If you stay in Jambiani, you can easily walk to Kuza Cave.

The signage from the main road is quite good and the path between the local houses is safe. There are no stray dogs here either.

You can also drive directly to the cave, parking on site is free.

Alternatively, you can get here by taxi, but you must always agree with the taxi driver on the exact time he will pick you up, as there are no taxis waiting on site.
