Travellers from the vast majority of countries in the world can purchase a visa on arrival or online at visa.immigration.go.tz.
How much does a visa to Tanzania cost?
The cost is the same for all eligible countries and is 50 usd.
You can also pay in euros, but at a 1:1 rate, 50 eur, which is not convenient.
How to pay for a visa to Tanzania?
There are two equivalent options:
- Online in advance (before departure to Tanzania) - fill in only via the official website visa.immigration.go.tz
- tocomplete the application you need to have your passport with you, which you take a photo of and upload the photo with the application
- I have not been able to make a payment on any of my attempts to complete the application online
- when you arrive in Tanzania, you go straight to the immigration officer with a printed receipt of payment
- Upon arrival at any international airport or land border crossing
- you first go to the counter to pay for your visa - you can pay by cash (50 usd / 50 eur / 125 000 tzs) or by card. However, it is advisable to have cash with you in case the card payment does not work. ATMs at international airports are in the public area, so buy dollars before you fly to Tanzania
- then go to immigration with the receipt and they will stamp your visa in your passport.
How long is the visa issued for?
The tourist visa is valid for 90 days and is a single entry visa.
If you want to visit Tanzania 2 times (for example, you go to Kenya and come back to Tanzania), you need to buy a new visa for an additional 50 usd.
What countries are required to pay for a visa?
Travelers from most countries around the world must process a visa online or upon arrival for 50 usd.
Some nationalities even have to get a visa only at the embassy before travelling - this applies to citizens of the following countries, for example: Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, Iran, Nigeria and others.
Countries with visa-free travel
Citizens of these countries do not have to pay for a visa at all. Upon arrival or arrival in Tanzania, they will get their passport stamped for free.

Arrival Card Fulfillment
Usually while you are still on the plane, the cabin crew will hand out paper arrival cards which list your personal details and the name and address of the first hotel you will be staying at in Tanzania.
If you don't get an arrival card on the plane, you can fill one out at the border crossing, where there are always plenty of them.
The arrival card for Tanzania cannot yet be filled in electronically.
Compulsory insurance for Zanzibar
If you are travelling to Zanzibar, in addition to a visa, you must also purchase compulsory local health insurance.

How do I pay for the insurance?
As with your visa, you have two options:
- Online before travelling to Tanzania on the official website visitzanzibar.go.tz, after arrival just show the QR code
- On arrival at Zanzibar airport or port - payment is possible in cash in US dollars, Euros or Tanzanian shillings and also by card
Customs regulations
Tanzanian customs regulations do not allow the export (but also the transfer and import) of wildlife items (trophies, ivory or leather products). A special permit is required to export these items.
