Muslim Quarter

Muslim Quarter

Most of the central part of the city is a lively Muslim quarter with many small mosques.

Dar es Salaam's Muslim Quarter has no precise boundaries, but most mosques or shops selling traditional Muslim food can be found around Mosque Street and Zanaki Street.

Book a hotel in the centre of Dar es Salaam

Stroll through the lively district and soak up the unique atmosphere of old Dar es Salaam.

We recommend heading here at dinner time when the streets fill up with street food vendors, especially grilled chicken, fish and fruit.

The Muslim Quarter is a safe place, even after dark.

Because there are virtually no tourists in Dar es Salaam, non-Muslims are usually not allowed into the mosques.
