Modern centre of Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam is the economic hub of Tanzania and the richest city in East Africa.

Near the ferry port towards Zanzibar you will find the tallest buildings in all of Tanzania, which form the modern centre of Dar es Salaam.

The 10 best hotels in Dar es Salaam

Stroll among the skyscrapers and experience the contrast of modern high-rises and the street food stalls with local snacks located just below.

Tanzania's tallest buildings

If you walk along the promenade towards Ferry Fish Market, you'll see some of the tallest buildings in the whole country as you look out over the modern downtown area.

  • Tanzania Port Authority Tower - at 157 metres high, it is the 2nd tallest building in Tanzania (furthest left in the photo)
  • PSPF Twin Towers - a pair of equally tall buildings reaching 157 metres
  • MNF Square Twin Towers - 145 metres high, these skyscrapers are very similar to the PSPF buildings and are the furthest to the right in the photo)

Viewing terraces

Unfortunately, there are currently no official observation decks in either building and I was unable to get to any of the higher floors.

Hotel with a view

A great chance to enjoy panoramic views of the city and harbour is to stay at the Johari Rotana ***** located in the MNF Square tower.
