If you're interested in the history of Japan's most famous sport, which is an integral part of its culture, head to this museum. It's located in Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall, near Ryogoku Station.
What will you see at the museum?
At the museum, you can see the history of sumo wrestling. There are richly decorated kesho-mawashi, or silk aprons, from the most important matches and much more.
If you can't make it to a sumo match, at least come here.
Admission and opening hours
The museum itself is only open on weekdays 10:00-16:30, but admission is free.
Tickets for sumo matches are sold at the door from 45 000 jpy.
