Nea Kameni

Nea Kameni

Nea Kameni is an uninhabited island in the middle of a sea-flooded volcanic crater. The islet is made up entirely of lava rock, and at the top of the islet is a still active volcanic crater. On Nea Kameni, you can take short and relaxing hikes to the crater, which will take no more than an hour.

The entrance fee to Nea Kameni is 5 eur and is payable locally.

Just a few dozen metres from Nea Kameni is the smaller island of Palea Kameni, where you can take a dip in the hot thermal springs.

How to get there?

As both Nea Kamenia and Palea Kameni are uninhabited, there are no regular ferries. However, you can take advantage of the many companies organising cruises and excursions. A boat will take you from the port in Fira on Santorini, where you will usually be dropped off for an hour and a half, then transferred to the neighbouring islet of Palea Kameni and back to Fira after about an hour and a half.

In the summer season there are also boats from the port of Oia.

Prices for boat trips are around 20 eur and are operated by companies such as Santorini Volcano Tours or Santorini Boat Tours.

However, you can also take advantage of complete day trips with all-inclusive meals, with prices starting from around 100 eur, e.g. with Spiridakos Sailing Cruises.
