Toompea, loosely translated as "Cathedral Hill", is the highest part of the Old Town and is home to several monuments and beautiful sites.

The Toompea area is an ideal destination for a stroll around Tallinn's historic centre.

What to see and visit?

The main landmark is the medieval Toompea Castle from the 14th-16th centuries, which is currently the seat of the Estonian Parliament. Unfortunately, Toompea Castle is currently closed to the public.

Directly opposite the Parliament, you can visit the largest Estonian Orthodox cathedral, Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, for free.

Not to be missed are the three great viewpoints.

  • Kohtuotsa - the most famous view of the Old Town
  • Patkuli - in our opinion, the most beautiful view of the Old Town and the Baltic Sea in the background
  • Piiskopiaia - a nice viewpoint with a park from where you can see the main train station and the western suburbs of Tallinn
