Darkwood Beach

Dakrwood Beach is a smaller beach just off the main Valley Road and is also one of the few beaches on the island where buses stop in close proximity.

The surface of the beach is fine white sand and the entrance to the water is gradual and safe. The sea here is calm most of the time with gentle waves, but as Darkwood Beach is not protected by any bay, larger waves can occur.

The beach is very well equipped with cheap snack bars, water sports facilities and sunbed and umbrella hire.

In general, Darkwood Beach may not be the nicest beach in Antigua, but it's definitely one of the most accessible and best equipped for low-cost types of travelers.

You can park anywhere along the main road literally a few feet from the beach, and there are plenty of spots. In addition, the number 22 bus line from Saint John's (West Bus Station) or Jolly Harbour passes by the beach. The interval is not regular, but it usually runs at least once every 30 minutes during the day.

You can stay at the luxurious 4* Tamarind Hills Hotel or the cheaper Orrie's Beach Bar and Hotel about 2km south at the smaller Turners Beach.
