Catania Fontanarossa Airport in a nutshell
Sicily's largest airport is located about 8 kilometres from Catania and less than 50 kilometres from the summit of Europe's largest volcano , Mount Etna.
The official name is Aeroporto Vincenzo Bellini di Catania, but it is better known as Catania-Fontanarossa after the district in which it is located.
The cheapest flights to Catania are mainly with Wizz Air, which operates flights from Central and Eastern Europe.
Ryanair and easyJet also have extensive flights to Catania, mainly from Italian and European destinations. Among the traditional airlines, ITA Airways, Lufthansa and Air France-KLM fly to Catania.

Now in October there was often a long wait for security, it took almost an hour so it was very tight, luckily the gates are right behind the checkpoint. And we weren't even flying in any rush hour. Plus, quite a few people wanted to get ahead of you, so constant arguing with others, the airport staff didn't care, but then incredibly pointless delays at the front of the venue, where they'll happily send x other people ahead of you even though you've long since got everything ready in a box.
So far probably the worst check-in experience in Italy or flights in Europe (and we really left enough reserve before departure because of the motorway). I had the same experience confirmed by a regular traveller from Catania in October and she didn't know why either.
Not to mention the not-so-well-resolved arrivals clogging things up, not to mention the signage at the airport, like that there are additional check-in counters in the other half of the terminal. The train station, while marked as an airport, is quite out of hand.
