Lufthansa Allegris Business Class A350 (MUC-EWR)

Seat "Privacy"

Lufthansa's new Allegris business class promised to revolutionise comfort on long-haul flights. I tested it on the Munich-Newark route in October 2025 and here are my full impressions - from the seats to the quality of the food.

Our final destination was New York, where we subsequently tested the iconic hotel The Plaza - you can find our full review here.

A bizarre array of seat types - most for a fee

Allegris business class has been a bit controversial from the start. In fact, there are 5 different seat types in the regular business class cabin, most of which are at an extra cost.

This is very unusual in business class. Yes, for example, on rival airline Condor you can pay extra for a more spacious Prime Seat, which I tried on a JNB-FRA flight in August 2025, but that's still only one extra seat type.

With Lufthansa, you can only choose one seat type for free during purchase or online check-in, and the other 4 types are extra.

  • Classic Seat - "A" and "H" aisle seats
    • no extra charge
  • Privacy Seat - Standard window seats with more privacy (the aisle is further away than the "Classic" or "Extra Long Bed" seats)
    • extra charge from 140 eur to 170 eur
  • Extra Long Bed Seat - "D" and "G" aisle seats
    • the folded seat is 2.2 metres long, all other types are 1.9 metres long
    • extra charge from 140 eur to 170 eur
  • Extra Space Seat - "E" seats, single seat in the middle
    • significantly enlarged storage compartments
    • extra charge from 170 eur to 230 eur
  • Suite - 4 seats in the 1st row
    • separate cubicles with lockable wall between seat and aisle
    • these seats are more reminiscent of First Class on some other airlines
    • extra charge from 500 eur to 600 eur

Purchase a ticket

I decided it was time to start burning miles from the Miles+Bonus frequent flyer program on Greek Aegean Airlines. A one-way ticket from Prague via Munich to New York cost 55,000 miles + roughly 430 eur in fees.

We were traveling two, but I also wanted the security of a window seat.

Therefore, there was no choice but to pay extra 2x 140 eur for Privacy Seat.

Check-in at the airport

We do online check-in 24 hours before departure, but since we travel with checked baggage, we still have to visit the airport counter.

We fly out of Prague with a short hop from Prague to Munich (see this review for what regional business class looks like on Lufthansa).

The check-in desk in Prague is open all day for all departures, so we conveniently check our suitcase more than 3.5 hours before departure.

There are dedicated desks for business class passengers, and we don't wait a minute in line.

In business class, there is a weight limit of 30 kg and the baggage has a priority tag. You can find out what the baggage limits are in other classes and what the maximum dimensions of hand luggage are on our Lufthansa baggage page.

We get boarding passes from Prague all the way to New York, so we don't have to worry about anything in Munich.

Lounge and boarding

We had 1.5 hours to change planes in Munich, but the flight from Prague was delayed almost 40 minutes, so we can't make the lounge.

No matter, Munich is my very frequent transfer point, so I'm sure a Lufthansa Lounge review will appear on our website soon.

However, we did use the Erste Premier lounge before our regional flight from Prague to Munich.

Boarding is very well organized by group. It is extremely efficient and all passengers are on board 15 minutes before departure.

Business class cabin - austere but elegant

We're flying on an Airbus A350-900 that's only a few months old, and the business class cabin looks new and modern at first glance.

The colours are a mix of grey, dark blue and brown. The cabin may look a bit austere and uninventive, but I actually like it!

The blue and beige seats create an elegant impression and have lots of small but very practical features.

But it's true that seats like Classic, which are the only ones without a surcharge, really have the least privacy and are the most exposed to the gaze of other passengers walking down the aisle.

A comfortable seat full of practical features

The doubts disappeared and the frustration of having to pay extra quickly vanished.

The seat itself is great!

Not only in itself, but especially for the unusually large amount of storage space, which is often a problem even in better-rated business classes.

The seat compartment is equipped with lots of small but practical gadgets to make the journey more enjoyable:

  • a glasses holder
  • lockable storage compartment
  • wireless phone charging
  • an extra tablet in addition to the large monitor if you want to watch movies or TV shows in bed and lying down, for example
  • universal charger and USB connector

Seat heating or cooling

An absolutely great feature on the touch tablet is the ability to heat or, conversely, ventilate and cool the entire seat.

The response time is very fast and the seat starts to heat up within a few seconds.

How does it feel to sleep on the Allegris Business bed?

But of course the most important thing happens between the main service and landing.

Even though it was a day flight, I had to try the bed in business class.

The seat controls are very simple and can be unfolded at the touch of a manual button or via a tablet touchscreen.

The seat may look narrow at first glance, but it is actually very comfortable when unfolded into a bed!

The footwell is wide and you can sleep comfortably on the bed even sideways.

I slept great and rate the seat similar in quality to the Prime Seat on Condor airlines.

Amenity-kit and other amenities

The seat comes with an extremely comfortable pillow and blanket.

It lacks bedding, but that tends to be standard only on night flights.

However, I was disappointed by the lack of slippers, which are definitely practical for daytime flights.

You will find this equipment in the seat compartment:

  • Noise-cancelling headphones for the IFE (but you can use your own headphones that connect to the monitor via Bluetooth)
  • Still water 0.5 litres
  • Amenity-kitwhich includes:
    • Toothbrush + small toothpaste
    • a wet wipe
    • earplugs
    • eye mask
    • socks
    • L'Occitane cosmetics - deer tallow lip balm, hand cream, facial moisturiser, body spray

You are free to take bottles of mouthwash, moisturising spray or wet wipes in the business class toilets.

In-flight food

The seat is great, the bed is great, but what about the service and quality of the food?

The refreshments are the same for all passengers - passengers on the cheapest Classic seats and the most expensive Suite get the same service.

Before take-off I study the printed menu available at each seat.

The menu composition is very special. There is virtually only a choice of meat or seafood and the only vegetarian dish again contains mushrooms.

Fortunately, you can study the menu before your flight at lufthansa.com/menus-in-business-class.

In addition to the special dishes, you can pre-order a total of 9 dishes other than the standard menu on board for free. However, even the online selection was put together very strangely - meat only pork or beef, no chicken or turkey option at all.

And of the vegetarian dishes that don't contain mushrooms, there was again only one - an Indian option.

Welcome drink and nuts

The first service is before the start in the form of a welcome drink. You can choose between sparkling wine, juice, water or the signature Aviator cocktail.

I choose the Aviator cocktail. Sweet, but good!

We get nuts and water before the main course.

The main service

The main course arrives about an hour after takeoff. Before the meal, we get the traditional hot wet napkin, which is handed out once more before landing.

The starter is served first. I choose the beef jerky with grilled celery, beetroot and grape wine. For me, an absolutely great combination and the presentation is also very successful.

The main course arrives in a few minutes. There are 3 different dishes to choose from. I chose the prawn risotto.

Actually, the presentation of the dish is rather unfortunate, but the taste? Absolutely unbeatable and the barley risotto in particular is one of the best I've ever had!

I also order champagne with my meal. There is also a choice of other wines or cocktails.

Dessert in the form of a honey cake with golden milk is a great sweet spot to finish!

The crew is very efficient and attentive and harvests practically as soon as I milk.

About 20 minutes after the main service is harvested, the crew is still handing out little chocolate truffles.

Dinner

We land in New York around 18:30 local time, so the pre-landing service can be called dinner.

Takes place about an hour and a half before landing.

I opted for salmon and lentils and for dessert, yogurt with granola and fruit. Again, great satisfaction!

After the meal we get more ice cream and also a souvenir box of traditional Lindt chocolate.

In-flight service and crew

I have nothing to complain about the crew. Service was always very fast, the crew tried to offer other dinner options for passengers who don't fish or mushroom...

Some may not be comfortable with the typical German aloofness, but the service is absolutely professional and flawless!

Entertainment system

The 4K resolution monitor is great. The controls are either touchscreen directly on the monitor or via a tablet at the seat so that you can control the IFE with the seat reclined or from the bed.

Standard seats have a 24-inch monitor, while Business Suite seats have a 27-inch screen.

The selection of movies and TV shows is extensive, and I particularly appreciate the very wide variety of European cinema.

Wi-fi

Free internet is not available for business class passengers. There is no charge only for the Messaging. You have to pay extra for other packages just like economy class passengers.

Wi-fi is functional during the flight at flight level, i.e. not during take-off and landing.

Internet speed varies considerably depending on where the aircraft is at the time. I used the internet for chatting. I also tried to work, but that was practically impossible just because of the lousy speed.

Conclusion: Lufthansa Allegris Business Class - a step forward, but with controversy

Yes, as far as seat selection is concerned, it's really surprising that you can only choose one of 5 different seat types for free.

This is just bizarre and annoying especially if you are travelling as a couple, where the total ticket price can go up by more than 400 eur.

The flight experience itself was very good though! There are better business classes, that's for sure. But I rate the new Allegris Business class above average, at least within Europe!

Pluses

  • Elegant cabin design
  • Lots of practical features at the seat
  • Comfortable bed
  • Modern 1-2-1 seat layout providing plenty of privacy
  • Great entertainment system comparable to IFE
  • Food quality
  • Professional crew

Cons

  • Menu composition - absence of chicken dishes and large representation of seafood dishes
  • Bizarre number of seat types, most at added cost
  • Absence of slippers
  • Often high flight prices

What does Eurobusiness class look like on regional routes? I'll write a review of the Munich-Cairo flight on the Airbus A321 shortly.

Similar connecting flights routinely go via Lufthansa's main hubs - Munich (MUC) and Frankfurt (FRA) - whose detailed airport guides can be found here.

Allegris Business Class is a step in the right direction, although not without its faults. The biggest disappointment is the surcharge system for most seats, but otherwise the new cabin is one of the most visually and functionally pleasing in Europe.
