Reviews Condor Prime Seat A330neo (JNB-FRA) - best business class?

Prime Seat

When German Condor introduced the Airbus A330-900neo business class in 2022, it was immediately clear to me that I just had to try it!

For a holiday airline, it was a big step that caused a stir in the airline industry. Because it looks great! Much better than the business class of many major airlines...

Is Condor's business class really one of the best in Europe? I tried it for myself in August 2025. Have you also used Condor business class and how did you like it?

Buying business class

It took me 3 years before the opportunity came to try the new business class. However, while planning a trip home from a business trip to Kuala Lumpur and Mauritius, the chance came.

For my dates, the price of a one-way flight from Mauritius to Prague via Frankfurt was based on 1 250 eur, which is a decent price.

But I eventually came across an even better deal: Johannesburg - Frankfurt - Prague for 1 000 eur. I was happy to extend my trip by 3 by processing guides at South African airports.

Plus you can earn Alaska Airlines frequent flyer miles with Condor, which is the best oneWorld FFP alliance for me.

I buy my ticket 2 months before departure directly through condor.com.

Right when I choose my seats, I pay extra 199 eur for Business Class Prime Seat. Read on to find out what the difference is between a standard seat and a Prime seat.

Check-in at the airport

I check in online 24 hours before departure, but since I'm traveling with checked baggage, I still have to visit the airport counter.

Condor uses the Johannesburg JNB check-in counters in Terminal B, which open 3.5 hours before departure.

There are dedicated counters for business class passengers and I don't wait a minute in line.

In business class, there is a weight limit of 30 kg and the baggage is given a priority tag. You can find out what the baggage limits are in other classes and what the maximum dimensions of hand luggage are on our Condor baggage page.

I get boarding passes all the way to Prague, so I don't have to leave the transit area in Frankfurt.

  • Our tip: stay overnight in the comfort of the InterContinental 5* hotel directly opposite the Johannesburg Airport terminal

Bidvest lounge and boarding

In Johannesburg, Condor uses the Bidvest Lounge in International Terminal A.

It is rather above average for a contract lounge used by many airlines and accessed via a huge number of frequent flyer and credit cards.

The seats are comfortable, I don't have to wait 15 minutes for a shower and the food offering is very decent.

I go into more detail in my review of the Bidvest Lounge.

With less than an hour until departure, I leave the lounge and head for the gate.

There is a pre-boarding area created for business travellers in a separate area with seats.

Boarding is right on schedule and very well organized. What a change from my last business class trip with Aegean Airlines!

Business class cabin - great first impression

On the Airbus A330-900neo, Condor has 30 business class seats in 8 rows and a 1-2-1 configuration.

The first row contains 4 Prime Seat and the rest consists of 26 standard business class seats.

The first impression is great.

I make no secret of the fact that the sort of crazy "stripey" identity Condor has been using since 2022 is my favorite design in the airline industry ever.

Stripes are ubiquitous even in business class, but the whole cabin looks very elegant thanks to the dark blue color combined with the imitation wood!

Amenity-kit and snack basket

Accessories and amenities to make flights more enjoyable are an integral part of business class, especially on long-haul flights.

Prime Seat passengers will find these amenities at their seat:

  • Noise-cancelling headphones for IFE (but you can use your own headphones that connect to the monitor via Bluetooth)
  • Small bag - travel organizer
  • Amenity-kit, which includes:
    • Toothbrush
    • eye mask
    • socks
    • Rituals cosmetics - deer tallow lip balm, hand cream, facial moisturizer, body spray

On the footstool you will find other equipment.

  • Slippers
  • Pillow
  • Blanket
  • Bed linen

Before meals, the crew always offer hot, wet towels to wipe your hands and face.

After takeoff, the crew will still offer pajamas (unfortunately, on my flight only L/XL size pajamas were available) and also a very nice basket of various snacks that passengers in standard seats don't get.

Prime Seat vs. Standard Seat - What are the differences?

Let's now take a look at what the difference is between the first row of "Prime" seats and the rest of the cabin.

The Prime Seat has the following advantages over the Standard Seats:

  • Huge space - the seat pitch is a flat 2 metres compared to the 112 centres of a standard business seat.
  • Extra-wide footrest that can also serve as a seat to allow for shared dining with your travelling companion
  • Larger IFE monitor (24 inches vs. 17 inches for a standard seat)
  • Small storage space next to the footrest (standard seats have no such cabinet)

Plus, you still get a few extra small but nice bonuses over the standard seat:

  • A snack basket
  • Pajamas
  • Amenity-kit with Riutals products (only a very basic amenity-kit is available with the standard seat)

Review by Prime Seat - the best seat in the European sky?

I sit in my 2K seat and the very first feeling is awesome. I can hardly remember if I have experienced a more spacious business class seat.

The legroom is truly enormous, both in length and width thanks to the massive footrest. The seat is pleasantly wide and just soft enough.

The handy locker next to the footrest is ideal for storing travel documents or boarding passes, for example. It can also accommodate a telephone.

In addition, there is a relatively large storage area between the seat and the aisle, but no lockable locker.

Operation of the seat is very simple and intuitive via the touch buttons under the armrest. You can quickly and easily unfold the seat into a bed without the help of the cabin crew.

The seat also includes a universal plug including USB-A and USB-C ports.

The dining table is solid and extends with a click at the bottom. Because there's so much room on the Prime Seat, you can safely leave the seat with the table folded out, which is great.

First impressions are perfect, and I can boldly say that the Prime Seat Condor in its classic fold out form is one of the best business class seats I've flown in.

Comparing the seat to my last long haul flight in Air India business class, the difference couldn't be greater.

Folding the seat into a bed - how did I sleep?

But of course, the most important thing happens between the main service and the morning breakfast - especially on a long overnight flight.

The bed in business class.

Folding out the seat is very simple at the push of a button.

Before that, of course, I go to the lavatory to change into my pajamas.

The bed is 2 metres long and thanks to the width of the Prime Seat you can sleep comfortably in absolutely any position.

The blanket is very nice with the "Condor" logo and the typical stripes.

If the seat was separated from the aisle by some divider, I would feel more like I was in First Class than Business Class.

But if we're talking about a sense of privacy, that's provided even without a screen or door. Because if you lie down, you can't see the aisle, much less the other passengers.

Although I was full of impressions and actually didn't want to sleep, I eventually fell asleep over Cameroon and woke up after about 6 hours over Europe.

I didn't wake up once during the whole time - a great experience!

Food during the flight

Seat great, bed great, but what about the service and quality of the food?

The refreshments are the same for standard and Prime Seat passengers.

Welcome drink and peanuts

The first service is before take-off in the form of a welcome drink. You have a choice of sparkling wine, juice or water.

I hardly drink alcohol when travelling solo, so I opt for orange juice.

Before the start, I study the printed menu that is available at each seat.

We get nuts and water before the main meal.

The main service

I really appreciate that the first service comes practically immediately after boarding so as to maximize the opportunity for sleep on a night flight.

The starters are varied and include items such as prawns, courgette, hummus, bread and salad. However, there is no choice - only one starter option is available.

The crew is very efficient and attentive, and harvests practically as soon as I'm done milking.

The main meal arrives in a few minutes. There are 3 different dishes to choose from here. I chose the salmon with basmati rice.

Quite frankly. I wasn't too thrilled with the appetizer or the main course.

Both the fish and rice were quite dried out, on the other hand the portion was large. I've eaten worse, but I've certainly eaten much better meals on a plane.

I got a small cheese platter before dessert.

But the sweet spot at the end in the form of a coconut tartlet with passion fruit topping is fabulous!

Breakfast

No midflight-snack is served during the flight, but that's understandable on a night route. Personally, I wouldn't have used the midflight-snack anyway - after all, I couldn't even eat all the snacks in the cupcake.

About an hour before landing we get breakfast.

Unfortunately, there is no choice - only 1 variety available.

Breakfast was probably the weakest link of the whole flight. The portions were very small and extremely uninteresting culinarily.

In-flight service and crew

First of all I have to highlight the great work of the crew!

They exactly managed to balance helpfulness and a relaxed casual demeanor at the same time. The speed of service was also absolutely excellent, which I appreciate especially on night flights when I want to sleep as long as possible.

Entertainment system

The massive 24-inch monitor with 4K resolution has the specs of a first class entertainment system, rather than just business class.

But the highlight comes when flipping through the movie and TV show offerings.

I honestly have perhaps never experienced such a massive offering, including the latest current movies. Absolutely perfect!

The display is touchscreen, but as it's almost 2 metres away from me, there is a modern remote control. In truth, it's not very responsive and not very intuitive overall.

The monitors on the standard seats are only 17", but still very good quality. The range of movies and TV shows on them is identical.

Wi-fi

For business class passengers, free internet is available throughout the flight.

Wi-fi is functional during the flight at flight level, i.e. not during take-off and landing.

Internet speed varies considerably depending on where the aircraft is at the time. I used the internet for chatting. I also tried to work, but that was practically impossible just because of the lousy speed.

All passengers are given a card after takeoff with an access code to enter when logging into the wi-fi.

Toilets

For every 30 passengers there are 3 toilets dedicated for business class passengers only.

The toilets were always immaculately cleaned and you can grab a refreshing wipe or earplugs from the basket next to the sink.

Conclusion - does Condor have the best business class in Europe?

I confess that I probably can't be too objective. Condor is my love-brand thanks to its unique striped design.

And this feeling was only reinforced by the absolutely great business class experience.

Pluses

  • Prime Seat is one of the best hard products in Europe (as a seat and as a bed)
    • even the standard seats look good and are above average
  • Modern 1-2-1 seating layout providing plenty of privacy
  • Great entertainment system comparable even to Emirates' IFE
  • Professional crew
  • Often bargain prices

Cons

  • Food - breakfast the worst I've ever experienced in business class + poor choice (only 1 starter and breakfast option)
  • Somewhat unintuitive IFE controller
  • Very basic amenity-kit if you travel in a standard seat

Does Condor have the best business class in Europe? There will probably be better, especially when it comes to food. But when you consider the often very good prices, the absolutely great seats and the professionally trained crews, then I think you'll agree with me that Condor business class is definitely above average.

It's worth paying extra for Prime Seat?

Very lastly, let's evaluate whether I would pay 199 eur again for a premium seat in the 1st row.

The Stadnard seats looked comfortable too, but if you are tall or bulkier then I think the extra for the Prime Seat will definitely not be money wasted.

There is simply significantly more room in length and width.

Sure, I probably wouldn't pay €199 for pyjamas, an extra basket of sweets and a better amenity-kit, but I would for the comfort.

How about you, would you pay extra for a Prime Seat?
