Everything you need to know before departing from or arriving to Munich Airport

Munich Airport in a nutshell

Krystof Hajek updated 7. 9. 2023

The airport, officially named "Franz-Josef-Strauss Flughafen", is the second largest in Germany and one of the largest in Europe and the world. It is located near the city of Freising, about 35 km from the centre of Munich.

If you are flying to or via Munich, by far the most flights are offered by Lufthansa, which has the airport here after Frankfurt FRA its second main base after the airport.

Condor (search for tickets at condor.de) or Eurowings (search for tickets at eurowings.com) also have a significant number of flights, especially to summer and exotic destinations.

However, Munich Airport is used by airlines from all over the world, with scheduled flights to every continent except Australia.

The airport is open 24 hours and overnight stays are no problem.
