Scenic Highway 360, known as the Road to Hana or Hana Highway, is the undisputed top attraction on Maui.

The winding road meanders along the wild and sparsely populated north shore of the island between the largest city of Kahului and the town of Hana in the far west of Maui, but continues on even further.

Book a car at Kahului Airport

The Road to Hana offers incredible scenery of a northern coastline thick with jungle that drops down steep slopes to the jagged Pacific coast. Literally every few hundred yards you'll encounter waterfalls right off the road, magical ocean views and many attractions.

The Hana Highway route

The most beautiful parts of this highway start in the village of Haiku, where Highway 36 ends and is smoothly followed by the famous Highway 360. Along the way, you'll encounter countless switchbacks and tricky narrow sections, so take your time and enjoy the slow ride.

The road continues along the entire northern coastline, passing the town of Hana in the very west and heading further south to a remote area completely away from civilisation.

On the south coast, the road turns into a narrow, rutted asphalt road, number 31, which can be used to circle all of West Maui, but this part of the route is only recommended for vehicles with higher chassis and 4x4 drivetrains.

Distances:

  • Kahului - Hana: 51 miles / 82 km / 2 to 2.5 hours
  • Hana - Waimoku Falls: 11 miles / 18 km / 30 minutes
  • 70 miles / 112 km / 3 hours
