At the start of the Pipiwai Trail to the popular Waimoku Falls, be sure to visit a place called ʻOheʻo Gulch or the Seven Sacred Pools.

The flow of the Palikea River at its mouth from the ocean creates an incredible cascade of waterfalls and natural pools that are just a short distance from the parking lot, making them very accessible.

The Oheʻo Gulch Pools are located in Kipahulu Valley Nature Park and can be reached via a marked, convenient trail in 3 minutes from the free parking lot at the Kiphulu Visitor Center.

Swimming is allowed in the pools, but use extreme caution when climbing over slippery and unstable rocks and don't linger directly below the falls, which are the very rocks that often break loose and could injure you.

If there is a sign at the trailhead at the Kipahulu Visitor Center stating that swimming is prohibited due to high water, be sure to respect it, swimming in the pools is life threatening if the water is high!
