Namuang Waterfall 1

Na Muang Waterfall 1

The Muang Waterfall 1 is the most easily accessible waterfall on Koh Samui.

It's just a few minutes walk from the car park and there's a natural pool below the waterfall, which you can swim in if you have enough water.

If you want to see the waterfall without a strenuous hike, this is the easiest option on the island.

A few minutes from the car park and you're by the water

Unlike other places on Samui, you don't have to deal with logistics here.

  • 👉 You park
  • You walk through a few stalls
  • Stand by the waterfall in 2-3 minutes

This is the main reason most people head here.

What it's like here (reality)

The waterfall is nice, but you need to have realistic expectations.

  • Height approx. 18 meters
  • dark rocks (hence the name "Na Muang")
  • the pond below the waterfall
  • lots of people

👉 Important: the amount of water varies significantly depending on the season. In the drier season (February-May) the waterfall can be rather smaller.

The surrounding area is quite touristy - stalls, parking, sometimes organized groups.

There is also an elephant farm near the car park where you can feed the elephants or pay for an elephant ride.

The conditions for the animals here are pretty bad though. How do you feel about riding elephants? Let us know in the comments below.

Bathing: yes, but...

Swimming is possible if there is enough water.

Count on the fact that:

  • the water is not completely clear
  • the bottom may be slippery
  • water can be cloudy after rain

But it works well for a short refreshment.

How to get there (easy)

Na Muang Waterfalls are located in the southern part of Koh Samui.

🚗 Car / 🛵 Scooter

The best and easiest option

Parking is right at the entrance and you pay 20 thb for a car or 10 thb for a motorbike (cash only).

The entrance from the main road is marked with a blue sign.

🚕 Grab / Bolt

In this part of the island works without any problems.

As the waterfall is close to the main road, the return journey is usually without problems - you will usually wait less than 15 minutes for Bolt or Grab.

📍 Distances

  • Lamai Beach: about 20 minutes
  • Chaweng Beach: approx. 40 minutes

How to connect it with other places

The Muang 1 makes the most sense in combination:

👉 The waterfall itself will take a maximum of 20-30 minutes.

Is it worth going here?

Yes, if:

  • you want a quick and easy stop
  • you're passing by
  • you want a short refreshment

❌ More likely not, if:

  • you are looking for a quiet place without people
  • you're driving halfway across the island just to see a waterfall
