House of Wonders

The House of Wonders, built in 1883 by the then Sultan Barghash, was the largest house in East Africa and was equipped with all kinds of unknown "wonders": running water, electricity, elevator.
Around these "wonders" is grouped a collection of relics from Zanzibar's past in today's Zanzibar Museum of History and Culture.
The House of Wonders is located on the main promenade between the Old Fort and the former Sultan's Palace.

The current museum exhibits Swahili and Zanzibari cultural historical relics.
Some of the most interesting include examples of fishing gear or original furniture. The room with portraits of Zanzibar's sultans is also popular.
A visit to the museum takes about 20-30 minutes.
Entrance fees and opening hours
The museum is open daily from 10:00-18:00.
The ticket price is 3 usd and payment can only be made in cash in US dollars or the equivalent in Tanzanian shillings.
