The Great Mill
On the northern edge of the historic centre, a large and very well-preserved medieval watermill, rather prosaically named ‘Wielki Młyn’, catches the eye.
The mill was built by the Teutonic Order as early as 1350 and, for more than 500 years, served as one of the main sources of flour for the whole of Gdańsk. Although the building has undergone numerous renovations, it has retained almost exactly its original appearance.
The mill now houses the fascinating Amber Museum, dedicated to this raw material, which is mined on a large scale along the entire Baltic Sea coast.
