Harborland
Harborland is Kobe's modern waterfront district with a promenade, restaurants, shopping malls and one of the best evening views in the city.
It's the place to go, especially for a stroll, dinner, or nighttime photos of the Kobe Port Tower and harbor.

Is Harborland worth a visit?
Yes, especially if you're staying overnight in Kobe.
During the day, it's a nice place for a short stop, but Harborland doesn't really have a real atmosphere until after dark when the harbor, bridges and surrounding buildings light up.
If you only have a few hours in Kobe, this isn't necessarily a priority. But if you're spending the evening here, it's one of the best places to walk around.
How much time to set aside?
About 1 hour is enough for a short walk and photos.
If you want to sit down for dinner or browse the shops, count on 2-3 hours.
In the evening, people usually spend even longer.
What to expect - promenade, shops and food
Harborland is not a historic district, but a modern promenade with shopping malls, restaurants, and a wide area around the water.
The most famous landmark is the red Kobe Port Tower and the adjacent Meriken Park.
A huge part of Harborland is the Umie and Mosaic shopping mall complex.
While Umie is primarily a classic modern mall with shops selling fashion, furniture, jewelry and accessories, Mosaic is more of a marketplace with local delicacies and restaurants.
At the Mosaic market you will find a historic lighthouse and also a Ferris wheel Mosaic Big Ferris Wheel ideal when visiting with children.
The Ferris wheel is open daily 10am-10pm and one ride costs 800 jpy.
Practical tips
- the best atmosphere is after sunset
- the wind from the sea tends to be quite strong in the evening, a light jacket is useful even in the warmer months
- during the day there are fewer people, but also a less distinctive atmosphere
