Its popularity is partly due to its unique roof shape over steep cliffs and partly due to its location. The mountain is surrounded on three sides by the sea and on the fourth side you'll find the beautiful Kirkjufellfoss waterfall.

The mountain was also made famous by the 6th and 7th series of the cult saga Games of Thrones.

The 463-metre-high mountain can be climbed on a very steep path.

How to get there?

Kirkjufell rises just a few dozen metres from the main road number 54, about 2 km from Grundarfjörður and 179 km from Reykjavík (route map: google.com/maps). There is a small parking lot right next to the mountain.
