Getting from Toronto City Billy Bishop Airport

Toronto

The airport has a major advantage in its location. The island on which it is located is barely 750 metres from the full centre of Toronto.

Walk or ferry to public transportation

For a long time, the terminal could only be reached by ferry, but in 2015 a pedestrian tunnel was opened.

Pedestrian tunnel

A roughly 150-metre-long tunnel connects the terminal on the island to the arrivals terminal, which is located on the mainland at the southern end of Little Norway Park. The centre itself can be reached on foot in a maximum of 20 minutes, or you can use several modes of public transport.

Ferries

If you don't feel like covering the short distance between the airport and the mainland by walking through a tunnel, you can use the ferries, which leave every 15 minutes and take 2 minutes to cross.

Ferries run daily from 5:15am-0:07pm with a frequency of 15 minutes and you can find the exact timetable here: billybishopairport.com/ferry.

The ferry is free.

Public transport

There are several tram lines and special airport buses that run to the mainland terminal.

Free shuttle bus

The airport operates free shuttle buses from the pedestrian tunnel to Union Station in downtown Toronto.

This bus is available free of charge to all Porter Airlines and Air Canada passengers, just show your ticket or boarding pass (both before departure and after arrival), but realistically, no one usually checks your documents when you board the bus.

  • The downtown stop is at Union Station on the west side of the Fairmont Royal York Hotel
  • Buses run every 15 minutes
  • Hours of operation are 5:00-0:15 every day
  • Travel time to Union Station approximately 15 minutes

City public transport

In addition to the free shuttle bus, you can get to other destinations on the TTC's streetcars.

The "Queens Quay West at Bathurst Street" stop is about 100 metres down the sidewalk from the pedestrian tunnel or ferry.

There are 2 lines that run here:

  • 509 - towards CN Tower and Union Station
  • 511 - Bathurst (west of downtown)

You can pay the fare with your own contactless card inside the tram - one for 120 minutes costs 3,30 cad.

Alternatively, you can purchase a PRESTO Card with a full day's fare from the machines at the stops for 13,50 cad.

For detailed information on Toronto's fares, visit the official website at ttc.ca/Fares-and-passes.

Rent a car

Hertz Car Rental is located in the Arrivals Lobby and has onshore parking near the ferry or pedestrian tunnel.

It's especially worth renting a car if you'll be travelling outside Toronto.
