Parque Principal Zócalo
We really liked the main square, also known as the Parque Principal or Zócalo.
It’s not just a must-see spot with the colourful ‘Bacalar’ sign, but the true, vibrant heart of the town, which you’ll probably pass through several times a day.

Around the square you’ll find a chemist’s, small shops, food stalls and little shops selling quite nice souvenirs.
There’s no shortage of local restaurants, cafés or a few places serving international cuisine, including Italian.
The square is at its liveliest in the evening, when tourists and locals mingle and more stalls open. Make sure you set aside some time at least once to take a leisurely stroll and enjoy a tasty bite to eat.
Bacalars’ main square really did pleasantly surprise me! A lovely, lively place.
