Although Cocalitos is labelled a cenote, a visit feels more like a simple natural swimming spot on the shores of the Seven-Coloured Lagoon.

This is precisely where we see its greatest advantage over Cenote Azul – you can swim in the shallow, turquoise waters of the lagoon, surrounded by a lawn, several palapas, swings and hammocks suspended above the water.

A major attraction here are the stromatolites, which look like ordinary rocks but are in fact extremely delicate living structures. Therefore, only enter the water at the marked areas, do not cross the ropes and do not touch the stromatolites.

It takes about ten minutes to get here from the town centre by taxi or Uber. As with Cenote Azul, it’s a good idea to arrange your return journey in advance.

Admission costs 100 mxn per adult visitor. Payment is in cash. It is usually open daily from 10:00 to 17:00.

There are toilets, showers and a small snack bar on site, but don’t expect a full-scale beach club. Do not enter the water wearing sun cream, insect repellent or body lotions.
