Cenote Azul
Cenote Azul is the most easily accessible standalone cenote in the Bacalar area.
You don’t need to book an organised tour – you can get there from the town centre by car, taxi or Uber. We used Uber without any problems, but bear in mind that, due to the small number of drivers, you may have to wait more than 20 minutes for a ride.
Ordinary taxis do occasionally turn up at the cenote, but we wouldn’t count on it.
Don’t expect a cave or a shallow turquoise pool.
Cenote Azul is more like a large, dark blue lake, reaching a depth of around 90 metres at its centre.
A swim is pleasant and the entrance fee is low, but for us it’s more of a fallback option for when you’ve run out of things to do. If you have to choose just one place, we find Cocalitos more interesting.
It’s usually open daily from 10:00 to 18:00.
The entrance fee is 100 mxn per person.
