Transfer at Kangerlussuaq Airport

Kangerlussuaq has a modern and relatively spacious terminal from the days when it was the main entry point for all international flights to Greenland.
Orientation here is very easy and you only need to arrive at the airport 45 minutes before your flight.
International flights to Copenhagen always go through security before departure, while none of the domestic flights go through security.

Transfer between flights and transit
Even after the opening of the new Nuuk Airport, Kangerlussuaq is still served directly from Copenhagen and you can connect to flights to Ilulissat or Sisimiut, for example.
International flight (including flights from Denmark) -> Domestic flight within Greenland
If you are transferring from an international flight to a domestic flight, you will first go through immigration (find out the conditions for entering Greenland), then you have to collect your luggage, go out to the public area and check in again.
You will then go through security to the departure gate area.
The total transfer time averages between 20 and 40 minutes.
Domestic -> International
When transferring from a domestic to an international flight, you usually do not have to collect your baggage, but you must exit the transit area, go out into the public area and go through security back to the departure gates.
This is because at other Greenlandic airports there is never any security check before departure and you always need to go through at least one security check before an international flight.
Total transfer time averages between 15 and 35 minutes.
Transit
Some Air Greenland domestic flights have only stopovers in Kangerlussuaq, for example Sisimiut - Kangerlussuaq - Nuuk.
In case Kangerlussuaq is a transit only airport for you, you usually have to get off the plane into the terminal and wait 20-30 minutes to continue.
During this transit, you can buy snacks and there is no security check before boarding the plane.
