The airport, named after Turkey's first female military pilot, is located about 36 km from central Istanbul in the Asian part of the city. It's not nearly as big as the airport Istanbul IST on the other side of the Bosphorus, but it's still one of the busiest in Europe.
Pegasus Airlines, a major low-cost carrier, has its base here and Turkish Airlines also operates one of its smaller bases at the airport.
