The Vessel is a work of art and a 46-metre-high structure standing in the Hudson Yards area below the skyscraper with the famous view of The Edge.

Immediately after opening in 2017, the Vessel became a popular tourist attraction and one of the most photographed places in New York City.

The honeycomb and 154 stairs

Stephen Ross, CEO of the Hudson Yards development company, wanted to create a transformative and monumental work of art in a public space accessible to all.

A structure resembling a honeycomb stacked on top of each other was eventually built by architect and artist Thomas Heatherwick.

The base is only 15 metres wide and gradually expands to over 40 metres wide.

A total of 154 staircases and one elevator running every quarter of an hour connect the floors.

Unique atmosphere and views

Although the Vessel is not a real viewpoint - the surrounding skyscrapers tower over it and you can only see the nearest buildings from here - the crowds of tourists head here for the unique views inside the structure itself.

The circular shape and bronze facade inside the Vessel make for some great and original photos.

At night, the interior of the Vessel is closed off, but the entire structure is beautifully lit, making it worth heading here after dark.

Admission and opening hours

The Vessel is open every day from 11:00-19:00. However, the last time you can enter is at 18:00.

You can buy tickets online for exact times via the official website, but it's not common for long queues to form.

For online admission, you will pay a process fee 2 usd in addition to buying your ticket at the door.

The price including tax and fees is between 13 usd and 18 usd.

Prices are lowest on weekdays and highest on holidays, public holidays and weekends.
