Menara Kuala Lumpur

The TV Tower in Kuala Lumpur offers the best panoramic view of the entire city. It is built on a hill in the centre of the city and the height of the top floor alone is 308 metres. The acknowledged height of the building, including the antennas, is 421 metres.
Hotels with the best views in KL
The tower was opened in 1996.
Menara Kuala Lumpur is the 7th tallest tower in the world overall and the 5th tallest building in Kuala Lumpur.
Two viewpoints - when is the best time to visit?
The Kuala Lumpur Tower has two different vantage points.
- Observation Deck - An inner terrace all behind glass at 276 metres
- The glass is clear and it's quite dim, so even at night the views are quite nice, but you just can't avoid the reflections when taking photos.
- Sky Deck (Sky Terrace) - The glassless outdoor terrace is, in our opinion, the best view in Kuala Lumpur and is located at 300 metres
- It includes the so-called Sky Box or also Glass Box, a structure overhanging the edge of the terrace from where you take really unique photos, you pay a fee 10 myr for 45 seconds.
Don't forget to check the weather - a visit along with smog or overcast skies will only be money wasted.
If I speak for myself, then clearly the best time to visit is in the evening at sunset. You'll have a beautifully lit city and enjoy the night views too.
Entrance fees and opening hours
Open every day from 9am to 10pm.
Prices are as follows:
Adults | Children up to 12 years old | |
Observation Deck | 80 myr | 50 myr |
Sky Terrace | 140 myr | 80 myr |
Combo (both at the same time) | 180 myr | 100 myr |
We definitely recommend paying extra and enjoying the KL skyline without the extra glass.
The official website for purchasing tickets: tickets.kltower.com.
However, there are hardly any queues forming on site and we recommend buying your ticket on the spot as you buy the exact time of your visit via the website.
How to get there
The tower sits on a hill in the centre of town, but there is no public transport going directly to it.
You can currently only walk from one direction along the main access road (see route map). Other walking routes through the parks to the other side are currently closed.
There is a free shuttle bus from Jalan Puncak Street to the tower every 15 minutes, but the distance is so short that you will walk up sooner.
The nearest metro stations are:
- Raja Chulan (monorail, green line 8) - 1,200 metres, see walking route map
- Dang Wangi (metro, red line 5) - 1,000 metres, see walking route map
Hotels in the vicinity
The immediate surroundings are surprisingly quiet while being centrally located just about 15 minutes from the bustling, lively Bukit Bintang district.
It is therefore a great place for relaxed accommodation.
For example, you'll find these well-rated hotels in Jalan Puncak just below the tower:
- Indigo Kuala Lumpur on the Park ***** - a large chain of luxury hotels at affordable prices
- Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur **** - a very cheap local hotel with beautiful modern rooms
Our tips and recommendations to visit
- buy your tickets on the spot, there are no queues and there is no limited capacity compared to Petronas Twin Towers
- the best time to visit is before sunset, with the proviso that you wait until after dark to visit the terrace (there is no time limit)
- it is definitely worth paying extra for the Sky Terrace - an outdoor observation deck without glass
