Rokkosan Pasture

Rokkosan Pasture

Rokkosan Pasture is a mountain farm and recreation area on the slopes of Mount Rokko, known for its grazing sheep, open meadows and views of the surrounding mountains.

Compared to the views on the ridge, it's more of a place for a quiet walk or relaxation, especially popular with families with children.

Personally, I see Rokkosan Pasture as one of the most beautiful places I have visited in Kobe.

What to expect - a farm with animals and attractions

Rokkosan Pasture is a large area with meadows, farm buildings and free-roaming sheep and other animals. The atmosphere is rather rural and relaxed, with plenty of space to walk around and sit.

For example:

  • pastures with sheep and goats
  • horse riding
  • cow paddocks
  • open grassy areas and mountain views
  • a restaurant and small shops
  • seasonal activities and farm produce

This is not a classic tourist attraction, but rather a place to slowly stroll and relax.

Entrance fees and opening hours

There is an entrance fee to the extensive Rokkosan Pasture area and prices are as follows:

March-November

  • 600 jpy - Adults
  • 200 jpy - children

December-February

  • 400 jpy - adults
  • 200 jpy - children

Rokkosan Pasture is open daily except Tuesdays.

It always opens at 9:00 and closes according to the season. In winter at 17:00 and in summer until 19:00. Last entry is always 30 minutes before closing time.

There are also lockers for luggage storage at the main (north) ticket office - you can only pay with coins 200 jpy to 300 jpy depending on the size of the locker.

My experience and practical tips

The most pleasant time to visit is usually spring and autumn, when it's not too hot and the views are good. In summer, the open meadows can be quite hot, while in winter the site is quieter and some services may be limited.

How much time have I spent here and do I recommend reserving?

  • 45-60 minutes: a short walk around the grounds
  • 1.5-2 hours: a quieter pace and a stop at a restaurant
  • full day: hiking in the Rokko Mountains

This is what I would watch out for:

  • it tends to be colder and windier up there than in town
  • expect open terrain without shade, especially in summer
  • it is good to combine your visit with other places on Mount Rokko

How to get there

Rokkosan Pasture lies on the ridge of Mount Rokko and there are usually two ways to get here:

  3. Bus line 2 (230 jpy for 1 ride - pay with cash or card) - runs 1x per hour

The second option goes via Mount Rokko.
