The port town of Milazzo in north-eastern Sicily is one of the main beach resorts on the north coast and a key starting point for trips to the Aeolian Islands. The town’s location itself is also remarkable: it sits on a peninsula 5 km long and just under 1 kilometre wide, which is ideal for walks.

Beaches and swimming

Milazzo boasts an almost endless beach stretching from the peninsula for more than 7 km to the south, merging seamlessly into one beach after another to form a strip of sand nearly 20 km long, all the way to the popular bathing spot of Punta Marinella.

The main beaches in Milazzo are coveredin fine, light-coloured sand with the occasional pebble. At first, the beach has a distinctly urban character, but the further you move away from Milazzo, the more natural the local beaches become. Milazzo and its surroundings therefore have something to offer both lovers of a lively atmosphere, water sports and activities, and those who prefer a peaceful lie-back by the sea without crowds of tourists.

Milazzo is one of Sicily’s more affordable holiday resorts, and accommodation here can be found for up to half the price of other well-known resorts such as Cefalù or Taormina.
