Where to buy tickets
The largest company is the Austrian Federal Railways ÖBB, which always works with local carriers when travelling abroad. So in practice, for example, when you travel by train to Prague, you will take the same train, which you can find on the Austrian Railways ÖBB and Czech ČD websites.
Similarly, when travelling to Germany, you will always find tickets for a specific connection on the ÖBB and German DB websites.
It is always worth comparing ticket prices on the websites of both carriers. Each of them may have different prices and different special offers, even if in reality you always travel on the same train.
In addition, there are several private carriers to Vienna where you can only buy tickets on their website.
You can compare the prices of the different carriers on one page, for example via thetrainline.com. However, this website does not always display the special offers that you will find directly on the websites of the individual carriers.
Routes and prices
Because prices for trains change similarly to airline tickets as availability increases, we show the average price when you buy 1 month in advance.

Luggage storage at the station
If you only have a transfer in Vienna and would like to visit the city during your transfer, you can use the automatic luggage lockers at Wien Hauptbahnhof.
They are located on the 1st floor underground and you pay for 24 hours 2 eur to 4,50 eur depending on the size of your luggage.
You can only pay with cash!

If you have any questions or comments about the article...
Do I understand correctly that if I bought a Prague - Vienna ticket with ČD, it is valid from all stations of the Prague railway junction to all stations of the Vienna railway junction? So I can also take the S-Bahn to the station Wien Kaiserebersdorf from where the ticket to the airport is cheaper than from the city centre?
You can get to all stations in Vienna where your RJ 375 train stops.
It depends whether you have this ticket to Wien Hbf or to Wien Kaiserebersdorf.
It is not obvious from the picture.
Ja kdyz si koupil ČD jizdenku Viden Letište - Praha Vršovice so on vyslednim ticket was only PRAHA..
NO ! You have bought a ticket with the destination station Vienna Hbf (rj 375 does not stop anywhere else in Vienna) i.e. you cannot use it to travel further within Vienna.
From the purchase simulation, it seems that the ticket to Wien Kaiserebersdorf is displayed, but not loaded anymore. Or?
Yes I'm looking at it too and you can't really buy it online. I guess it depends on which station , for example I buy the ticket České Budějovice - Wien Praterstern normally.
Oh, yeah. Interstate rides are always city-to-city. I'm going on the ride above from Zbraslav now. And it's the same in Vidny. The only difference is that the stop there is not an international fare point, so they can't sell CDs there. If I bought it on the oebb I could buy it that way, such a ticket costs the same as on the hbf and so it would only say Wien on it. So I'm sure I can go that way, I was just surprised that I didn't find it anywhere as good advice on how to save 2,5 Euros, which made me a bit unsure if it really applies to those stops that are not international fare points.
So I'm just reporting the correct solution - the international ticket is not to Hbf, as lma confidently wrote here, but from city to city, i.e. from any stop in Prague to any stop in Vienna, regardless of whether the ČD website, or OEBB, can sell it directly. Where it can, you can see that it will offer the same price as only on Hbf. Since the difference in ticket price to Vienna and Vienna airport is usually 10-15 Euro, it's worth buying just Vienna, but even then it's not necessary to buy the S-bahn and the I think 4,60E, but just from Wien Kaiserebersdorf for 2,20. I assume (but don't know) that it's necessary that the train stops there, so it probably won't work for Railjet, etc., and of course that the train in question can be taken on a rail pass, i.e. not CAT.
Just to be clear, did you arrive at Kaiserebersdorf on the same train you took from Prague, or did you change trains at Hbf (or elsewhere)? And if you did change trains, did the conductor then come and check your ticket from Prague and confirm that it was in order?
Please give me feedback.
I changed at Hbf to S2 and at Rennweg to S7. In the s-mud the conductor did not come. I rode the ticket already from Branik, where on the way to Main the conductor came and checked. I subsequently asked both the Czech and Austrian conductors about getting around Vienna when I checked in at Railjet, and they both told me that I could continue on the s-mud to any stop in Vienna - which is also why it doesn't say it's for Hbf, and why it costs the same to buy it even if I enter it somewhere other than Hbf (and even if I do, the ticket will still just say Wien).
Thanks for the nice pick-me-up.
Vienna may be written there, but it is certainly not possible to continue to Vienna with the S!!
Fixed is what is written at the bottom of the timetable i.e. to which station the ticket was bought and here on the ticket there is only rj 375 to Vienna Central Station.
I am adding an example of a ticket purchased for Vienna Praterstern and here too you have to observe the mandatory trains including the S connections.
The validity of the ticket is 2 days, the journey must start on the 1st day of validity and the condition of using the mandatory cross-border train between the Czech Republic and the neighbouring country printed on the ticket must be met. For journeys to Germany and Austria, the other connections in these countries listed on the ticket must also be observed, and this also applies to journeys in transit through Germany and Austria. The compulsory train must be used for its entire route within the framework of the concluded transport contract
This is the description of the "Early Ticket Europe". I can't look it up now, but there is a mention somewhere on the web about using another train as well, provided the passenger pays the difference.
I dealt with this recently when we were in danger of missing a two month connection that had just been bought as an "Early Ticket".
@lma: the timetable below is only indicative and not part of the ticket. If you buy it at the station, there's nothing like that. The fact that you have it listed on your ticket as a compulsory connection is interesting, I didn't have it there (although I chose a connection other than Prague Hl.n. - Vienna Hbf when I selected it).
So I tried to find: https://www.cd.cz/assets/info/ci...tppm_1.pdf Chapter I, section 6.1:
"International tickets are also valid to/from stations within the unit in which the station indicated on the travel document is located."
But I admit I'm not quite sure how this fits with Chapter VII, points 63 and 64.
63) Tickets are always issued with a mandatory link to a cross-border train between the Czech Republic and a neighbouring country. In addition, for VJE to Austria and Germany, the ticket is linked to all trains in those countries.
64) The obligatory train and date are always indicated on the ticket. The ticket is invalid if the passenger uses another train. The passenger is obliged to use the compulsory train throughout its route within the framework of the concluded transport contract. Connecting trains on ČD, ZSSK, MAV-START and PKP IC/KD are not compulsory trains and the ticket can be used on any train in this part of the route. If the ticket is issued in the form of an eTicket, the timetable, which is informative, is also indicated on the document.
I would say that point 6.1 should apply, i.e. the ticket is valid from Prague to Vienna and I am obliged to use all the mandatory trains listed for the entire length, which I will do, I will just use some others. But it can also be the other way around.
I have written a query to the ČD. Anyway, on oebb.at the ticket for Hbf and Kaiserebersdorf costs the same (I think it starts at 14,30 Euros if bought early) and if bought there, the validity is completely out of the question.
