Getting from Sphinx Airport

Uber, Careem
The most convenient way to get to the centre or the pyramids in Giza is via the Uber or Careem mobile apps, which work reliably in and around Cairo.
As the airport wifi is not reliable, we recommend purchasing an Egyptian e-sim from airalo.com before you fly.
No more haggling over the price and searching for cash.
Car availability is good even though Sphinx Airport is located far outside the city. Some travellers have experienced Uber drivers refusing rides when travelling from the airport. However, we have always used Uber here without any problems.
Approximate prices for Uber or Careem services are as follows:
- Tahrir Square - 560 egp
- GEM - Great Egyptian Museum - 330 egp
- Pyramids of Giza - 360 egp
- Ramses Station - 650 egp
The Uber app car rank is approximately 50 metres outside the arrivals hall.
Other unofficial taxi drivers will try to approach you along the way.
When using Uber, it is advisable to be familiar with the East Arabic numerals used in Egypt, which are significantly different from the classic Arabic numerals we are familiar with. If you order an Uber, the app will show you the license plate number of the car, but in the familiar Arabic numerals. However, these are not used on real license plates and you have to translate the Arabic numerals into Eastern Arabic in your head:
- 1 = ١
- 2 = ٢
- 3 = ٣
- 4 = ٤
- 5 = ٥
- 6 = ٦
- 7 = ٧
- 8 = ٨
- 9 = ٩
Taxi
Official taxis don't run by meter and it always depends on what price you can negotiate. However, you'll usually get a higher price than Uber, especially in the direction of the airport, where taxi drivers refuse to haggle.
This is because they know there will always be passengers without access to mobile apps who will have to accept their price.
On the other hand, on the way from downtown to the airport, if you're lucky, you may be able to negotiate a price below 700 egp

Rent a car
You can rent a car at Sphinx Airport, a convenient mode of transport if you want to explore Egypt outside the big cities.
There is a Sixt car rental branch right in the terminal, but other car rental companies also offer a "Meet and Greet" service, with a member of staff waiting for you in the arrivals hall with your car.
However, the prices are very high due to little competition.
Bus - public transport
There are currently no buses or minibuses to or near the terminal.
