Austrian Airlines baggage
On Austrian Airlines, you can carry hand luggage for free, but only a small personal item on the "Basic" fare. Checked baggage is not included in the cheapest Economy Light fare.

Hand luggage
You can only take 1 piece of small luggage 40 x 30 x 10 cm on board for free. This applies to the cheapest fare "Basic".
On all other fares, you can take an additional piece of classic hand luggage measuring 55 x 40 x 23 cm for free.
Business class passengers can have 2 hand luggage pieces.
The total weight of both pieces must not exceed 8 kg.
If you bring more than one piece of luggage into the cabin, you will incur a check-in fee of 75 eur.
Checked baggage
Checked baggage is not included in the lowest fare on European "Economy Light" flights. You can buy your baggage later online for a fee of 30 eur per trip in Europe, or from 60 eur upwards on a long-haul flight.
If you want to travel with checked-in baggage, it is always more cost-effective to buy the more expensive "Economy Classic" fare or higher, where checked-in baggage is always included.

Business class passengers are always entitled to 2 checked bags.
| Weight | Dimensions | |
| Economy | 1x23 kg | 158 cm (sum of all 3 dimensions) |
| Business | 2x32 kg | 158 cm (sum of all 3 dimensions) |
For checked-in baggage, weight is the main consideration and dimensions are measured only in exceptional cases where the baggage is oversized at first glance.
If you are purchasing tickets directly on austrian.com, baggage and fare options will be displayed during the ticket selection process.
Luggage for children and pushchairs
Austrian Airlines carries strollers for small children free of charge.
You can check in a folding stroller, car seat or travel cot free of charge.
Other baggage is subject to the same conditions as for adults, i.e. from the Economy Classic fare upwards, baggage up to 23 kg is checked in free of charge.
Sports equipment
If sports equipment does not exceed the weight limit of 23 kg, it is considered as normal checked-in baggage and can be checked in under your tariff.
However, it is not possible to check in regular baggage free of charge in addition to the sports equipment in Economy class. You will have to pay for it.
The check-in prices are the same for the following types of sports equipment: skis, snowboard, diving equipment, golf equipment, fishing rods, bicycles and cycling equipment and hockey equipment.
- Europe - 80 eur
- Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia - 100 eur
- North America, Far East - 250 eur

Is the price of 30 Euros per bag the same for Austrian when buying the ticket and later buying it separately, or is it more expensive like Ryan?
How much does the 8 kg deal with the carry-on? (dimensionally my carry-on is ok)
Thank you.
Good afternoon,
I have booked a flight with my family of 4 (via Booking) from Warsaw to Vienna on 15.6.2026 and back on 19.6.2026 booking no. ZOCWC9.
When booking, I was unable to select cabin baggage 55 x 40 x 23 cm up to 8 kg.
According to the information on the Austrian Airlines website above, am I entitled to free cabin baggage: 55 x 40 x 23 cm up to 8 kg and 40 x 30 x 10 cm up to 2 kg?
Please let me know.
Best regards, Rafal Jasinski
The above information is no longer current. You are only entitled to one 40x30x15cm personal item in your booking. Cabin baggage 8kg/55x40x23cm can be purchased on the Austrian website for € 20 per person per segment.
Posting your booking code (and name) here is not a good idea.
