Austrian Airlines check-in

Austrian Airlines

Austrian Airlines is a classic network carrier and offers free check-in at the airport.

Check-in at the airport

Airport check-in is offered free of charge at all airports where Austrian flies. The opening and closing times of the counters vary considerably depending on the destination. In Europe, expect counters to open 2 hours and close 45 minutes before departure.

At Vienna Airport, Austrian Airlines counters are open 24 hours a day for all flights.

Self-check-in counters

Self-check-in counters are also available at selected airports, both for boarding passes and baggage check-in.

Online check-in

Web check-in is as early as 47 hours before departure. For departures from the USA, you can check in online 24 hours before departure.

You print your boarding pass and go straight through security at the airport. If you have luggage, you drop it off at the baggage drop-off counter.

The quickest option is to use mobile check-in by downloading the Austrian app. You don't need to print your boarding passes, just scan the QR code at the airport.

Seat selection

There is a charge for selecting a specific seat on the aircraft when purchasing the basic Economy Light fare.

Prices are quite high and start at 14 eur for European flights and 25 eur for long-haul flights. If you do not choose a seat, it will be randomly assigned to you free of charge.

The second cheapest fare, Economy Classic, already includes a free choice of a specific seat and in many cases may be more convenient if you want to choose your own seat. In addition, the price includes checked baggage.

If you're travelling with more than one person, the system won't deliberately seat you.
