American Airlines baggage

American Airlines

Baggage rules vary depending on the fare you purchase, but also on the route you are flying.

For official information, please visit aa.com.

Hand luggage

All fares always include 2 carry-on bags - one small personal item and one standard cabin bag.

  • 45 x 35 x 20 cm - personal item
  • 56 x 36 x 23 cm - cabin baggage

American Airlines does not specify a weight limit for carry-on baggage.

Checked baggage

On all economy class fares, i.e. Basic and Main Cabin, checked baggage is not included.

Exceptions are flights to/from Australia and New Zealand, where 1 piece of baggage up to 23 kg is always free.

Prices on other routes vary by region and you will pay the following amounts for 1 piece of luggage up to 23 kg:

  • International flights to/from Europe and Asia - 75 usd
  • International flights to/from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay - 60 usd
  • International flights to/from Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru - 45 usd
  • International flights to/from Canada, Central America, Mexico, Caribbean, Guyana - 35 usd
  • Domestic routes within the USA - 40 usd (or 35 usd when booking online)

If you have a connecting flight between different regions, the terms of the more expensive sector always apply. So, for example, if you fly from Europe via Miami to South America, you will pay 75 usd per checked bag (for the whole trip, not 1 flight).

Luggage and baby stroller

On all fares, you can carry a stroller and child seat for free when travelling with children under 2 years old. The pushchair can be taken through security to the aircraft, where it can be handed over to the attendant.

On arrival, you can pick up the pushchair again directly from the aircraft.

A child under 2 years old sitting on your lap is not allowed any additional luggage free of charge.

For children over 2 years old, the same rules apply as for adults.
