Dumbo is a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, located between the Brooklyn Bridge and the Manhattan Bridge. The name is an acronym of the words Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass.

The borough is famous for one of the most iconic views of the Manhattan Bridge. The area has become one of the premier arts and leisure districts in New York City.

Washington Street: the best view in NY?

New York has countless viewpoints, with the most popular ones being on high-rise buildings.

But I personally was most drawn to the iconic Washington Street in Brooklyn, with its famous view of the Manhattan Bridge pylon.

Walking along the waterfront

Dumbo has a great boardwalk along the East River that continues all the way to Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The waterfront is lined with old brick houses that have gradually transformed into a modern neighborhood full of artist studios, cafes and restaurants.

From the riverbank, you can see both the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges and the Manhattan skyline in the background.

How to get there

Dumbo can be reached within a 5-minute walk from Brooklyn Bridge Park, and the neighborhood is also easily accessible by subway.

You'll use the following subway stations:

• York St (about 250 meters from Washington Street) - Orange Line F
• High St (approx. 300 metres from Washington Street) - blue lines A, C
